La Belle Époque French Cabaret artists Laridan and Selva. 1900s
This is a collection of 2 portraits of French Cabaret artists by Walery:

Condition: Never used before. Age patina but good antique condition.
Dimensions: about 9 cm x 14 cm (common measure for antique cards)

Laridan and Selva wear “stage nightgowns”. This type of fine and transparent chiffon garments became fashionable at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th in the performances of the main Parisian music halls and theaters. They are the direct antecedent of the first stripteases.

The first artistic nude on stage took place in 1894, but several artists used the “theater nightgown” as their stage costume. The duets of actresses constituted another erotic claim at the time. Here Jungle and Laridan appear as two nymphs, adorned with flowers (mostly carnations, as a symbol of carnal sensuality).
